The Quest for Onigiri
7-11 has released Pokemon themed onigiri. I expect these have sold-out faster than tickets for Taylor Swift’s 2023 tour.
Let’s breakdown the flavors:
Omuraisu with mushroom and demi-glace
Soft-boiled egg with rice cooked in pork broth
Grilled sausage
These are not just excellent flavors but original ones. I’ve not seen an onigiri made from rice cooked in pork broth before. I’d definitely try to catch ‘em all (and stuff them in my face).
The financially savvy and patient will undoubtedly store these in thick glass waiting for them to moon like Gamestop in January 2021. A 1999 first edition hologram Charizard Pokemon card goes for $250k+ and the market price peaked at nearly $400k in Spring 2021. It makes sense once you realize this thing has 120HP!
Assuming these 140 yen onigiri peak at $300,000 (conservative estimate) by 2045, you’d be looking at a 2,141X ROI. The folks in Silicon Valley who preach 10X need to check their egos at the automated doors. 7-11 is where real dreams come true.
Go on a Ramen Tour
7-11 has launched an outrageously good-looking ramen campaign. They’ve partnered with 17 of Japan’s best ramen joints – including the top ranked Tomita – to make us all go ‘Wow’. They’ve branded this a ‘noodle’ campaign. I am not sure why. There is but one udon in a sea of ramen.
What I would give to dip those Tomita noodles into that hot, sticky, unctuous soup. And from the comfort of my home no less! Instead of waiting in some intolerably long line, I could be watching Love Is Blind Season 3 while stuffing myself with instant ramen!
What a time to be alive.
Item of the Week
I am not a fan of melon pan. But this could change my mind. We’ve got butter-flavored ice cream stuffed inside of a melon pan. I’m drooling, you’re drooling, we’re drooling.
From the Dumpster
The conbini is notorious for its generous use of the word ‘pizza’. But this is the worst example yet. This is the Cheese Salami Cheese Pizza!
This doesn’t even have the essence of pizza. It’s just shapes of things!
